Calibrating our scoring of student work is critical.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with Christina Nosek on a very powerful afternoon of writing calibration. We facilitated an afternoon professional development session where PAUSD colleagues from Escondido Elementary and Juana Briones Elementary Schools worked together to calibrate their scoring of student work. It was amazing to hear the academic discourse as teachers analyzed the sample students' pieces of informational writing in order to check their calibration and accuracy of scoring. The discussions around the writing progression taken from Teachers College's Reading and Writing Project were very strong and helped guide the next steps of scoring their classroom students' papers.
