Apple Watch Orientation

1/8/2017

My Apple Watch Nike+ Edition has really been an amazing addition to my technology usage. Prior to having my Apple Watch I never liked having anything on my hands, wrists, or anything. I found it hard to wear my old Stormtrooper watch. The Apple Watch somehow is different. It feels so nature that many times I don't even notice it's there, that is until I get a notification from my iPhone.
One thing that I recently changed was the orientation of my Apple Watch. I remember reading a post when the first generation Apple Watch came out posing the idea of having the Digital Crown on the opposite side of the Watch - opposite of the default settings. As a user that wears the watch on my left wrist and using my right hand to touch the watch, it made sense to have the Digital Crown on the left side of the face, making it easier for my thumb to engage the scrolling action. I switched to this orientation yesterday and will give it a shot to see how it feels. Of course that also involved switching the bands on the watch as well. Thankfully Apple made that option so easy.

In case you're interested in changing the orientation of your Apple Watch, follow the following steps.
Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch.
Tap on Settings > General > Orientation
As of Thursday, January 12th:
I've had my Apple Watch with the Digital Crown on the left side so my thumb could engage the scrolling motion for the past 7 days and it definitely feels much more natural and comfortable. I'm sure Apple's default setting of having the Digital Crown on the right is due to essentially every watch throughout time having the dial on the right, but I really like this different orientation for my Apple Watch.

Adding Printers on a Mac

Adding a printer on a Mac is quite simple. The easiest way is while in System Preferences, plug the USB cable that's connected to your printer to a USB port on your Mac. Your Mac will detect it and add it as an available printer.

In order to add a printer on your local area network, you will just need to know the IP address of that printer.

However, sometimes you may encounter a network printer that doesn't have the IP address listed. What's worst is that the menu on the printer does now show the IP address at all no matter how many menu displays you try. Here's how to add the printer if you have access to at least another computer that has already added that printer.
Picture
1) Navigate to About This Mac under the Apple icon in the menu bar.

2) Click on the "System Report" button. Depending on which version of Mac OS X, you may see a different option. Another way to access this is to search for System Profiler.

3) When in System Profiler, click on "Printers" in the side bar and then select the name of the printer in the list to the right.

4) Locate the IP address in the panel below. This is the IP address you will enter into your computer's System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > "+" > "Add Printer or Scanner" > IP.

Disable Related Videos in YouTube - Tech Tip #1

Recently I was asked my colleague about how to disable YouTube from showing the related videos at the end of the video. She was using some videos embedded in her Schoology course for her students and wanted to keep the students focused on their work. I was able to find a video tutorial I made in November of 2015 that I was able to share with her. After sending the video, I thought of sharing it on my blog as well. However, instead of putting it on my main blog page, I decided to create the new "Tech Tips" blog page.
Many teachers embed YouTube videos in their LMS (Learning Management Systems like Schoology or Edmodo but don't like having the related videos show up at the end of the video. The following is a video tutorial to display YouTube from displaying related videos when embedding videos in your LMS.
